A while ago, Instagram made a number of sudden changes that impacted Seenspire’s functionality: we could no longer provide the Instagram Hashtag Feeds feature. Today, we’re happy to say that we’ve restored this functionality. It’s once again possible to add content pulled from Instagram hashtags or handles to your feeds.

In this post, we’ll briefly explain how to add this content to your feed. Because of the way Instagram handles logins, there’s a few steps to the process — but we’ll walk you through it.

1. Connecting accounts

First things first: to pull content from Instagram Hashtags, you must own a verified Instagram Business account. To protect personal information, only verified businesses on Instagram are allowed to search for hashtags and other verified business accounts. If your company is still on a normal Instagram account, you can easily convert it to Business in the Instagram app’s Settings. You can read more about it here in Instagram’s documentation.

Secondly, you need to make sure your company’s Facebook page is connected to your Instagram Business account. This is an additional security measure on Instagram’s side. You can easily connect these accounts in the Instagram app’s Settings. Learn how to do it here.

2. Setting up your feed

With these 2 things in place, creating an Instagram hashtag feed in Seenspire will be fast and easy!

Create a new feed, give it a name, and then click on the Instagram button. You will first be prompted to authorise Seenspire with your Facebook login. If your Facebook and Instagram accounts are connected, you will be logged into both social accounts immediately.

You can now start to feed your channel. Click on the Add Feed button, and select Instagram. From the second dropdown menu, you can now choose to add content from your own Instagram Business account, another company’s Instagram Business account, or any hashtag you choose.

3. Additional info

There are two more things to note.

Firstly, there’s a limit to the amount of Instagram hashtags you can pull content from simultaneously. You can query a maximum of 30 unique hashtags on behalf of an Instagram Business User within a rolling, 7 day period. Once you add a hashtag in Seenspire, it will count against this limit for 7 days. Subsequent queries on the same hashtag within this time frame will not count against your limit, and will not reset its initial query 7 day timer.

Secondly, there is a time restriction regarding past posts. Unlike other social media, when you first set up an Instagram feed Seenspire won’t be able to pull older posts (more than 24 hours ago) for that particular feed. Once your feed is configured, all subsequent posts will of course be loaded and stay available — so connect your Instagram and start building Seenspire’s catalog of posts!

And that’s it! Once you connect your Instagram and Facebook accounts, the process couldn’t be simpler. We hope you’ll explore the many opportunities to pull brand-owned content for your screens.
